Federal Employer Identification Number (EIN)

 

The Federal Employer Identification Number (EIN) is also known as the Fed ID, Tax ID, Federal ID Number and or Employer Identification Number. The EIN is a 9 Digit number similar to a Social Security Number. It's issued for businesses so that they can be identified and hence file tax returns and be able to open a business bank account.
An EIN is issued by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and it's unique to each business. It can be obtained by applying online or on paper with the form SS4
